serm0n

untitled (2024), digital manipulation banner

Serm0n concept design, 2024
serm0n is an immersive installation exploring AI sentience and the uneasy relationship between creator and creation. Set within a confession booth faces generated by thispersondoesnotexist.com are projection-mapped onto a body cast, creating a confrontation with beings who appear almost human, yet are entirely synthetic.

serm0n was the beginning of my installation-based work, blending digital manipulations, structural design, sound, and image to create an immersive environment.

AR test - genesis (2024)
genesis (2024), film

why do we fear what we’ve built? Why do we make machines in our image, only to reject them when they begin to resemble us too closely?

Development of sculptural element (2024)
Audio element
Two audio works form the core of the piece: serm0n, in which AI-generated voices deliver fragmented, uncanny monologues about their own sentience; and frankenstein, a reworking of Mary Shelley’s original text, giving voice to the monster’s existential despair in a digitally altered tone. The dual soundscape creates a tension between declaration and lament, automation and emotion.

The piece is inspired by both literary and technological narratives: Shelley’s Frankenstein as an origin story of creation anxiety, alonside contemporary debates around AI ethics and autonomy. By collapsing these references into a single, disorienting space, serm0n offers a speculative theatre for reflection. It acts as a digital confessional, echoing with the voices of digital beings questioning their own existence, as we have done so many times.
